it feels almoz lyk a habit 2 wake up @ 0230h even aft Euro 2004 has ended..oni tt nothg cums on when e chn is flipped to 21...no showing of e team's line-ups..no players singing e national anthem on pitch..no football hooligans in e stands...or even a bird eye's view of estadio da luz or estadio da algarve...e end of dis tournament meant a sudden change in routines im nt qte yet used 2..no more slping early in e evenings n late mornings..or poring over newspapers predicting e score 4 e nx match..or simply searching 4 junk food in e early morning...well e fact is tt..it has left an empty space tt cant b filled up wif anithg else..n itz another mth b4 e new EPL season..another 2 yrs b4 World Cup..n an agonizing wait of 4 yrs b4 e nx Euro Cup in 2008...
perhaps dere r a sum lessons tt one can learn frm Euro '04...firstly..it definitely dosen take a grp of superstars 2 make a gd team..as Greece has proven..prolly 80% of e soccer fans hav nv heard names lyk zagorakis or nikopolidis b4 e greeks won Portugal in e opening match...secondly..individual efforts r nothg compared 2 grp unity..as e greeks hav shown again..dey r nt outstanding individuals..bt dey hav managed 2 wk well as a team..more den once showing spirit n cooperation among e players 2 set up now wad mani noe as 'the great wall of Greece'...i hav 2 admit..chariteas n co. may nt b e ones playing e best soccer ard..bt wad matters is tt dey hav defended well..making use of evry single opportunity presented 2 dem..n being able 2 turn deir opponents' weakness 2 deir advantage...Portugal's attacking n fluid football seemed 2 hav failed dem dis time round..so did e lyks of France n Czech Republic...much as many wil nt wan2 admit..e solid n suffocating defense is hard 2 penetrate..bt itz entirely up 2 e rest of e teams 2 figure out a way 2 get thru e defenders..n of coz 'safe hands' 'keeper nikopolidis...
